What do you see? For some it may be a barren landscape, others may see layers of red rock. Apart from a brilliant soft light, I see the product of persistence. Millions of years of carving by water in motion shaped this land, and stand as a grand example of what persistence can create. Hats off, Colorado River, I hope greed never sends your incredible efforts down the drain. Have a fabulous week y’all ☀️

Maybe posting wintery photos would be the correct thing to do, but my mind has been wandering back out this way so many times lately that I wanted to share this chapter of last summer with you. Largely shielded off from the rest of the world by expansive ice fields and inhabited almost exclusively by the indigenous Tsilhqot'in people, the shores of British Columbia’s giant Chilko Lake sees few outsiders. After getting a spontaneous plane ride out by a chatty lodge owner named Bruce, a week of living and working alongside local legend Chendi followed - a weathered old man who’s been roaming these mountains for 40+ years, most often bare feet. He lives almost entirely off the land, builds his unique-looking circular cabins by hand, and earns a small income by carving spoons and other wooden art pieces, which he sells to the occasional tourist who ventures far enough off the beaten track to find him. He doesn’t have an address and in order to reach his little haven you either hike, paddle, or fly in, following some vague directions at best. The kayak is his fishing boat, the bears are his neighbours and the trees are his friends and livelihood. Chendi is one of the most interesting minimalists I’ve met, living in one of the most serene places I’ve ever been. Each year I take several months off work to wander off wherever my heart most desire, and regardless of where I go, one of my favourite ways to spend my days is exactly like this. To connect with, get to know and learn from people by sharing daily life with them for a while. Cheers to a new decade full of potential, thanks for tagging along on my journey 💛

The moonscapes of southern Utah - an epic place to spend a Friday afternoon. Except I’m not, I’m tucked in under a blanket on the couch back home in Sweden, battling a cold and waiting for the rain to start pissing down outside the window again. In other words, just as epic.

Two seasons colliding at Two Jack Lake, two weeks back - a place of undeniable beauty that’s been photographed approximately 500 gazillion times. I often wonder what it felt like to stand by these tourist hotspots alone in silence, before the bus loads of people started arriving. Or even back before roads, when indigenous people still called these woods home, and respected them for their sacredness. Time changes everything, but we’re speeding it up like never before.

Wrapped up another six months in this spectacular playground on a frozen turquoise sea with this lovely chick. Apart from a fish cruising by beneath the transparent ice we had the place for ourselves, and our grins stuck to our faces to the point it hurt... Another one for the memory bank.

Natural wonders by the Pacific, where temperate rainforests stolen out of fairy tales meet an equally marvellous coastline. Swim beyond that soothing vista and you’ll soon hit a more sobering reality known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch; the largest accumulation zone of ocean plastic on Earth. If our planet thrives we do too, but the opposite is just as true and some days it’s hard not to feel the urge to crawl up in a ball and cry for how little the general public seem to understand our interconnectedness. Happy weekend y’all 🥳

The latest addition to my print gallery; a shot from a glorious autumn evening in my favourite mountains a few weeks back. What I wish the millions of people visiting this part of the world each year would fully understand is that we are part of this, not spectators. I wish everybody would bring that back home with them, and let it be a friendly reminder that we should live life accordingly. One of my many dreams is for my photos to find their way to the homes of people and inspire a similar set of emotions on a daily basis.
